Longer Days, Deeper Roots

As the days grow longer and summer approaches, we’ve quickly come to know the warmth here in the Mid-South.
The kids are soaking it up — playing in the water and making mud pies that have become a daily occurrence.
My favorite time of year is finally here: sun on my skin, long days in the garden, soil under my nails, and cooking outside on repeat.
This week I returned to my seed collection and I’m already planning for fall. Although it seems early, I have up to 222 growing days here — that’s most of the year! So while I wait for the summer harvest to trickle in, I’m continuing to direct sow summer squash and starting cool-season crops like lettuce, arugula, and brassicas.

I’ll keep interplanting in the backyard garden, but I’ve also been working hard to find a forever home for The Wild Bloom Garden here in Memphis. I’m connecting with my neighbors, leaning into the local culture, and I’m really loving it.
Looking back, I’ve come to appreciate how the last nine years of developing my skills unknowingly prepared me for this exact moment — where I can share my knowledge and build community through food. Soon, the official home will begin to take shape into what it’s truly meant to become.
